Forgiveness & Emotional Freedom
Pastor Stephen Mizell Matthew 18:21-35 Small Group Discussion Guide 1. The Unpayable Debt God cancels a debt we could never repay. Why is it important to understand the magnitude of what God has forgiven us? How do we sometimes try to âpay God backâ instead of receiving His grace? 2. The Comparison Trap in Forgiveness The forgiven servant focused on a smaller debt owed to him. Why is it difficult to extend grace to others, even after receiving grace ourselves? How can remembering Godâs forgiveness change the way we view others? 3. The Prison of Bitterness Unforgiveness doesnât just affect othersâit traps us. How have you seen bitterness or unforgiveness impact your own life or relationships? Why do you think holding onto hurt can feel justified, yet still be harmful? 4. Forgiveness Is a Choice Forgiveness is not a feelingâitâs a decision to release the debt. What is the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation? What makes it hard to release someone who has deeply hurt you? 5. Walking in Freedom Forgiveness leads to emotional and spiritual freedom. Is there someone you may need to forgive or release to God this week? What is one practical step you can take toward that freedom? Closing Prayer Father, thank You for the incredible grace You have shown us. You have forgiven a debt we could never repay. Help us to truly grasp the depth of Your mercy. Soften our hearts where they have grown hard. Give us the courage to release those who have hurt us. Not because it was smallâbut because You are greater. Lead us into freedom from bitterness and pain. Teach us to walk in the same grace we have received. In Jesusâ name, Amen.
